WALLEYE FEVER
My
partners and I are all set for a fun weekend of walleye fishing. The
game plan was to fish Lake Erie for three days and catch some giant
Walleyes. On April 17th at 3:00 a.m. we were on are way to Erie.
When I checked the weather, it called for high winds out of the
north. We all talked it over and decided to stop at the Trenton
channel and try some jigging and I’m glad we did. By the way, this
can be a great time of year to fish the rivers. The Walleyes are
coming in to spawn and the action can be fast and furious. We caught
our three man limit by 9:00 a.m. After that we were on are way to
Erie. We went out on the big pond with waves ranging two-five feet,
wow, talk about boat control it was tough. However, we did manage to
catch 6 fish jigging Yukon Shiners a version of a jigging minnow and
ball jigs.
The next day we woke up to howling winds at 20 miles per hour.
Needless to say we packed up the boat and headed to the big D
(Detroit). We got to the launch at 8:30 a.m. we fished until 3:00
and landed 12 Walleyes. It was a slow bite but we did catch some
good fish despite the conditions.
Day three, we woke up at 6:00 a.m. and we finally got to fish Erie,
what a great fish factory. We started out in thirteen feet of water.
We set up the first 2 outside rods trolling Bandit stick baits 65
feet back and set the next 2 rods 50 feet back, by the time the 4th
plainer board swung to the left it fell back, first fish on and it
was a 25 incher. We set the last 2 inside rods at 45 feet back and
we had 3 rods go off at once. We had twelve fish in the boat at 8:00
a.m. with some great fish. The best colors for the day were purple
and sexy shad. Erie is one of the best fisheries you can find
anywhere, what fun weekend.
WALLEYE FEVER , CATCH IT!
