The Facebook algorithm and Alexa grabbed onto the obvious data and directed me to a magazine called “Voyages de Peche” — a full-color ode to exotic fishing travel — which might’ve made sense except for the fact that I don’t quite parlez vouz. Fortunately, a bit of further investigation revealed that the publication has an English version, the concisely-named “Fishing & Travel.” In an era of declining pages and an increasing amount of rehashed content and semi-mindless listicles, this was manna from heaven for a magazine and fish travel nerd like me.

Even at the semi-pricey cost of about $10 an issue for both digital and paper delivery, it was worth it to me to take a flier on this opportunity. I received my first issue the other day and was pleased to find that the thick, glossy paper was jam-packed with quality photos and more information than I could digest in a single sitting. In fact, my one complaint is that my unassisted 49 year-old eyes can’t read some of the smaller fonts they needed to cram it all onto the page. It’s a tradeoff I’m willing to make, however, because there’s no filler, no wasted space. The features are excellent, the gear reviews are top-notch, and even the advertisements amount to fish porn of the highest order.

The range of topics is extensive — with articles in this issue on Colombia, Panama, Oman, and the magically-named African nation of Djibouti. Like many of you, I may never get to some of those places, but this $40 investment in dream-building is well worthwhile. Please consider subscribing – there’s nothing in it for me except an increased likelihood in the magazine’s continued existence.
