Through nearly two decades of writing about fishing, I’m sure I’ve plowed through every cliché possible. I’ve tried to avoid “bass on steroids,” but a thousand articles later I’m sure at some point I stepped in that mess, too.
Here are five lines that most of us have overused, and this blog constitutes a public vow on my part to avoid them going forward:
· “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” (Michael Corleone)
· “But we're talking about practice, man. What are we talking about? Practice? We're talking about practice, man?” (Allen Iverson)
· “Don’t call it a comeback.” (LL Cool J)
· “I feel the need – the need for speed.” (Tom Cruise, Top Gun)
· “Say ‘hello’ to my little friend.” (Tony Montana, Scarface) (any article about finesse)
Honorable Mentions:
· “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.” (Roy Scheider, Jaws)
· “No soup for you.” (The Soup Nazi)
· “There’s no place like home.” (Dorothy, The Wizard of Oz)
· Stella! Stella! Stella! (Marlon Brando, A Streetcar Named Desire) (any article comparing high-end spinning reels).
