In one of the galleries on Bassmaster.com, I noticed that Elite Series pro Jason Williamson is sponsored by both Phoenix Boats and Phenix Rods. But for an “o” they are the same, and of course they are homophones.
As far as I can recall, this is a first for professional angling, and of course leads to some questions:
Was this purposeful, some sort of package deal?
Does he separate them out when thanking his partners onstage? Or does he just say, “I couldn’t have made it to Day Four without Ph(o)enix”?
If they were spelled the same, could he just have a special edition sticker made, thereby allowing for more room on his truck and boat?
How can I utilize this to my advantage? Should I start a bait company called “Mercury Outboard”? As in, my “Mercury Outboard was the key to my victory this week.”
