When the press release came out titled “James River in good condition for Northern Open,” you knew it couldn’t be that easy.
Anglers were reporting great practices, many of them in the Chickahominy River, when news of the pipeline interruption to the east coast arose. Suddenly YouTubers were filming gas station fights and housewives hauling as many gas cans as they could to fill up.
What should BASS do?
Furthermore, assuming the show goes on, what should the anglers do? Do you make a long run to your preferred angling area with the recognition that you might not be able to make it back (or make it anywhere?) on Day Two and/or Day Three? What do you do if you don’t have enough to get to the ramp?
This year is one for the ages. Championship Monday is now part of the vernacular. Human sacrifice, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria! I’m looking forward to 2022…I think.
And to my full-time employer: I may not be back on Monday if I can’t fill up. I hope they’re hiring candlemakers at Colonial Williamsburg.
