According to news sources, there is a coin shortage in the United States right now, which is bad for the owners of laundromats and video arcades (do those still exist?) and potentially good for unpopular right-fielders (if indeed baseball actually had booing fans in the stands).
To be utterly honest, I don’t really care much about it, since I don’t leave the house often enough to make many cash purchases these days, but I guess the downhill impacts are tough on certain industries, and potentially on the economy as a whole.
If you’re feeling coin-deprived, I’ve got a solution: buy some from the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. For the first time, the Hall is issuing commemorative coins to honor what would have been the Class of 2020 (don’t worry – they’ll be inducted at the next banquet). I’ve got a few, and while it’s a little disconcerting to have Steve Bowman’s name on my currency, I have to say that it’s a pretty cool idea. Right now it’s easy to collect the whole set, because these are the first of their kind, but eventually – for those of us who value the history and sentimentality of the sport – it will be kind of cool to have one (or more) from each year.
Please sign up to be a supporting member of this worthy and important cause, and when you do your benefits will include one of these collectible coins….and stay tuned for the upcoming auction, which will have some one-of-a-kind items you’ll sell your left arm or your wife’s car to get.
