Don’t Forget The Senko

As a dedicated finesse fisherman and with all the finesse offerings from Yamamoto Baits, I discovered that the original bait that got me into finesse fishing had taken a backseat to the more recent offerings.  With the Scope Shad, Yamatanuki, 3 inch Hula Grub, Nuki Grub, and Fuzzy baits, just to name a few, my trusty 5 inch Senko was not getting much fishing time.  It’s fall here in Virginia and with our waters cooling, we have to change up our tactics.  It’s very hard for me to put down the Ned rig and the Dropshots but I had the point driven home the last trip out.  I had found the last remnants of grass that was just starting to die off for winter.  The bass had tucked up to the outside edge of the grass and I could not get a Ned through it to where the fish were.  A light bulb cartoonishly lit up above my head.  I reached down and picked up my dedicated Senko spinning rod rigged with a bobber stop and small nose weight on 8 pound mono.  Texas rigged, it allowed me to fish both the holes in the grass and the outside edge effectively.  After fishing a Ned rig all summer, this outfit felt like I was punching Florida grass but I remembered this was the original finesse setup.  Moral of the story, don’t sleep on the Senko, it’s just as effective as it’s always been.
