Frog Factory Lineup with Fred Roumbanis

Just in time for Frog Season, The Frog Factory has recently added three new hollow body frogs to its line up: the Boom Box, the Baby Boom and the Biggie Boom.  Designed in conjunction with long time Professional Bass Angler Fred “Boom Boom” Roumbanis, each frog is made for differing applications. All feature super soft plastic collapsible bodies and high quality black nickel hooks. Recently The Inside Line caught up with Roumbanis to talk about frogs of course.

Boom Box

“The Boom Box Frog is a short compact bait that is a really good bloopin' style frog. It's got a big wide mouth, it's loud, that's why we named it the Boom Box. I wanted a compact loud frog and this is what we came up with and there really isn't anything like it. You can walk it and do some more finessy stuff with it but I like it when there is a little more breeze on the water and you just want to give it a good bloop and kill it. It fishes great around lay downs, tulles, or docks and in open water.”

'“A lot of the other poppin' style frogs on the market work really good in 4' – 6' of water but the Boom Box actually works great in 1' or even less. Because it is so small, the fish can “V” to it, grab it and you can hook'em versus them missing it with a larger style frog.”

Baby Boom

“The Baby Boom is similar to the Sonic Boom Frog. It's a little shorter and it climbs over cover really well. It's the perfect skinny water frog. In situations when you see them coming for it, you've got one shot at those fish. Because if they miss it, they come down and spook themselves in the mud. Those are not follow up fish, in shallow water its hard to get a follow up, you can't really throw a Senko or a Yamatanuki to them. I've been in many situations where over night they just pull the water and drop it and I'm like dang what do I throw, well this is where you want to fish the Baby Boom.”

“It still weighs a ½ oz so you can throw it along ways, its just shorter and a little wider. It's the perfect frog for fishing ponds, or back waters where you are kicking up mud with your trolling motor. Some areas we fish don't have big fish around, so if you don't have that bigger grade of fish, the Baby Boom is the perfect choice and it still has the ability to catch big ones.”

Biggie Boom

“The Biggie Boom measures 7” from the nose to the end of the legs, it has a 3” body. It walks really easy, it is really soft and has huge super sharp hooks. Some guys may be intimidated to throw a frog this big, but I get lots of bites on this frog. The bass have never seen anything like it and it plays on the fish's curiousity. It weighs in at 7/8 oz so you can really bomb cast this thing.”

“I fish this frog everywhere. If I need a kicker, this is the frog I fish. It just catches a better grade of fish. At Dardanelle, the average fish is 2.5lbs but I tie on the Biggie Boom and my average is pushing 4lbs. This frog looks so natural and so like like, it just got the drawing power like a big glide bait.”

Froggy Colors

“There are six colors available. Of course we have White and Black which are must haves. I really like the Fred Frog color which is kinda like a male bluegill, the Gilly is another bluegill color and then we have Bone and Hot Mustard. There is just a color for every situation.”

Froggin' Gear

“I use a 7'4” H M1 Series Phenix Casting Rod (MX-74H) for all my frogs. It's has enough tip for skipping and enough power to hook'em. I'm using a 200 size 8:1 casting reel with my drag locked down filled with 50 - 65lb Courtland Master Braid.”
